Sitting there watching, my heart literally broke for Cui Jinbai. I was sitting in the dark, eyes glued to my tv screen thinking: How many times can a man express his absolute sincerity and devotion just to have it casually stomped on?
2. The Gut-Wrenching Tea Scene: Would You Guzzle or Walk Away?
Which brings us to a heart crushing moment of Episode 26.
Bu Shulin drops the ultimate emotional bomb: she tells Cui Jinbai she plans to marry a woman who will keep her dangerous secret safe. And as if that dagger wasn’t deep enough, she hands him a cup of tea meant to symbolize the formal cutting of ties.
I paused right there and had an internal debate that lasted a solid five minutes. What would I do in that exact position?

When Cui Jinbai chose to just walk away, I breathed a massive sigh of relief. It was mature, it avoided unnecessary toxicity, and it delivered a much sharper emotional blow than any screaming match ever could. Sometimes, silence and a clean exit are the most power moves to make.
3. Shen Xihe & Xiao Huayong: Trauma, Guardedness, and the Cold Exterior

Look, 26 episodes in, I am deeply thankful that she is finally throwing him a bone—giving him actual emotion and affection instead of treating him like a hostile stranger. But her stubborn coldness even after everything he has sacrificed for her? Even after she accidentally overhears those deeply private, heart-wrenching, sincere conversations between him and Tuian? Girl, what are we doing?! The string with the bell placed between them in the bed had me looking like “Really, sis…?”
But, as always, we have to take a peek at the psychological aspects at play here. Trauma leaves footprints.
- The Fear of Repeat Disappointment: Shen Xihe has faced deep betrayal and heartbreak in her past.
